To understand what I want to achieve in pre-production, I’ll utilise few techniques I’ve learnt over the years. I’ll use Minimum Viable Product, and MoSCoW.
I’ll go in with MoSCoW (what MUST the project have, what SHOULD it have, what it COULD have, and what it WON’T have) as that will uncover the MVP.
By the end of pre-production, the project MUST have
- At least 5 places from Dundee chosen
- Google forms conducted
- Google street view researched
- Gone to places to see if there are opportunities for riddles
- Character sheets basic information
- WANT
- DO
- SEEM
- Relationships with the other characters
- Riddle brainstorming done, at least 1 idea per landmark riddle
- Life is Strange has been studied
- A basic outline/idea of the plot structure
- Concept art for 1 character
It SHOULD have
- More locations, like 3-5 more
- Characters more explored
- Landmarks attached to the characters
- Mock ups for scenes with the characters
- The Narrative Toolbox character sheet filled out/the campfire write?
- More ideas for landmark riddles, looked into more locative gaming, game feel, etc
- The mystery figured out all the way through
- The concept art for all the characters
- Concept art for other artwork (UI etc)
