Today I made some more concept art. I played around with the mechanic of “following a train of thought”. I was thinking that the mobile version might not be possible for me to make. So I did this as if doing it on computer.
This is how you would access the main character’s thoughts, then follow trains of thought.
I will transcribe my handwriting underneath the pictures.
First, when the cursor is not on the player:
Character not fully coloured
Head highlighted so you know to hover more here
Character coloured when hovered over
Once you hover over character’s head, thoughts appear
Follow a train of thought!
Choices!
That’s the entire concept.
It opens a lot of paths, “trains of thought”. If I wanted to explore mental health in this story, this would be a good way to do this, with thoughts getting tangled, or hard to read, or misty, or too many popping up at once. This wouldn’t even need to be mental health, as struggling with thoughts and low points in life is normal and it could just be part of the storytelling.
