One of the things that came up in testing was, there should be a map instead of “landmark app”.
I made a test map by tracing Google maps screenshot (I swear, it will get better):
I also made test icon for McManus:
What is comes to the Map, I like the watercolouring for the roads, but it needed work. I made a “map inspiration” moodboard on my drive. This ended up being the most influential point of reference:
Meanwhile, I also made the map work in Unity — movement, zooming, clamping. I followed this brilliant tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6scxu1BHhs . I’m yet to test if this works in mobile, but quick Google says it will.
Anyway, I started drawing, based on my small research on fantasy or storybook maps and basing it on Dundee Map (obviously). Currently it looks like this:
Or with the Map on the background:
The roads will be interesting to figure out, and I feel I could do better job with the landmarks themselves. This however is a test on if I can make a real world map into fantasy map aesthetics. I think starting with the landmarks rather than roads is the way to go.
I’ll show the details now. I still think I’ll need a specific way of doing it, like a strategy.
That’s it for me today! :D See you with a finished map, hopefully!
