Last time, I was talking about how to make a Dundee map into a fantasy map. Now, almost two months later, I’ve made a prototype, playtested it, and am looking forward to the next steps.
Here’s playthrough of the prototype now:

So as you can see, some things have changed. I took the more memory centric approach, where a spirit guides player to her memories and comes more alive while doing so.
The riddles also developed. First, they were something to type text to. Then, this was not playful, so I made a version where you drag the letters in place. As so:
But that didn’t feel right either. So I iterated. Now, they are anagrams, where you have to find the “real” text from the environment and put it in. I wanted it to be more playful rather than just typing words, but still a challenge for the player where they do need to go to the environments. The build played above thought, has the accessibility options, where you tap on the question mark to open the solution to the riddle, so you can still experience the game, if you can’t walk to the sites.
This is riddle and the accessibility option showcasing solution to the riddle:
Here’s some construction of the anagrams:
A lot of the time was spent animating, but that turned out to be important as well: There is storytelling in the visuals alone. I utilised lessons learnt in comics to make her sympathetic.
And finally, here’s the map as it stands now:
